Colorado Republicans Enthusiastic About Congressional Redistricting Outcome

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, COLORADO - Ryan Call, the Chairman of the Colorado Republican Party issued the following press release after the Colorado State Supreme Court this morning upheld the Congressional redistricting plan adopted by the Denver District Court:

“Colorado Republicans are enthusiastic about our ability to compete under the new Congressional District plan approved by the Colorado Supreme Court,” said Ryan Call, Chairman of the Colorado Republican Party.  “Republicans will work hard to win the trust and confidence of the voters and we are confident that we will not only maintain our current Republican delegation, but will have the opportunity to expand our majority in Congress as we focus on the important issues of economic growth and job creation,” said Call.

The newly configured 6th Congressional District, which Republicans had praised for keeping the city of Aurora whole, will allow Congressman Mike Coffman to represent his entire hometown and the interests of Buckley Air Force Base, the Anschutz Medical Campus, the new VA hospital, and portions of Adams County in addition to Littleton, Centennial and Highlands Ranch that have been well-represented by Coffman under the prior district boundaries.

“The citizens of Aurora and Adams County are fortunate to have a man of such character and ability as Congressman Coffman representing their interests, and I am confident that he will win the support of his new constituents in the upcoming election,” said Chairman Call.

“Ed Perlmutter and Jared Polis have the most to worry about under these new maps,” predicted Call.  “As their new constituents in the 7th and 2nd Congressional Districts examine their record of raising taxes, increasing regulations on businesses, and failing to address the real problems facing the good people of our state, Republicans will offer a better choice,” said Call.

Call also praised Congressmen Cory Gardner, Doug Lamborn and Scott Tipton, and predicted that they would each win re-election. “The Republican members of our current delegation to Congress have demonstrated time and again that they are really listening to the people that live in the communities they represent, and that they are prepared to make the tough and principled decisions to help turn this country in the right direction.”

Although Republicans had been critical of certain aspects of the Denver District Court map that disregarded Colorado’s traditional communities of interest by including most of suburban Douglas County with the eastern plains and the agriculture-oriented communities in Larimer County with Boulder, the Colorado Republican Party had stressed that they were prepared to work hard to win the trust and confidence of the voters regardless of the ultimate Congressional district boundaries.
