Fellman, Jill (Democrat) Running for Jeffco School Board
Jill Fellman has been in the Jeffco school system forever. She in no way could be considered a "reformer" and making the tough decisions would be, quite frankly, out of the question. This was taken directly from her website:
Professional Experience
- Director of Education and Learning Achievement, Jeffco Public Schools – areas of responsibility included math, electives, career development, middle school, staff development
- Teacher on Special Assignment – Jeffco Public Schools Middle School Specialist; Assessment Specialist; Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator
The key here is that the math program, of which she was director, has been an abysmal failure in most of the schools year after year. Below is a chart of 10th graders in Jeffco who met the basic standards in math testing. For example, in Wheat Ridge High School 31% met standards. This means 69% did not meet the standards. In Arvada High 79% did not meet the standard.
This is simply unacceptable and the person responsible should not be promoted. If she's serious about reform, she should start with her own department.

Fellman has the support of the Teachers Union (JCEA). The Jeffco Education Association (Teachers' Union) are backing Dahlkemper and Fellman as friends of the union and protectors of the status quo. According to their September newsletter sent to teachers, they are also using completely unfounded scare tactics to rally volunteers. Here is an excerpt:
“Through strong membership and collective action we can restore sanity to the Jeffco school board. If the extremists successfully take over the school board, all indications are that they intend to gut your contract, implement Douglas County style vouchers, and take away your ability to advocate for quality teaching and learning conditions. Join together with other JCEA members by volunteering at least four hours over the next few months.”
The Jeffco School District budget is in trouble and needs board members who can objectively make decisions without Union influence. The Union exists to advocate for teachers, but when they control the board, who's advocating for parents and students?
